Strategy & Team Dynamics: Investment
From seed funding to institutional investors, learn how different types of investment impact culture and what every team leader should know.
Investors - they play a critical role in any business. And while the decision surrounding investment is out of our remit as mosh pit team leaders, it helps to know how the type of investor impacts the workplace culture.
In simple terms, the foundation of any company boils down to taking a pot of money, combining it with an idea and a team, creating something to sell, paying the bills and staff, and hopefully growing that pot of money. 💼➡️💰 Rinse and repeat—until you get tired, lose interest, sell, or go bust (it happens).
Sounds simple, right? Far from it. Along the way, most companies require fresh injections of money to boost growth. As you’ve learned in our previous discussions on growth, it costs a lot of 💸!
Unless you’re working for a bootstrapped unicorn 🦄 (rare—don’t let the YouTube algorithm fool you), additional funding is par for the course because as the old saying goes - it takes money, to make money.
This week, we’ll look at where the base money—and subsequent funding rounds—come from along the lifecycle of a company. And I’ll explain why understanding this is crucial for you as a team leader in the moshpit. 💡
For my lovely paid subscribers, the series of posts on investment will dive into each category: Private and Institutional Investors. Today, it’s about private investors.
